(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, extended his congratulations on the official launch of the Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen hailed the project as a new national gateway to the world and a historic achievement for Cambodia. The airport, which began operations on 9 September 2025, will be formally inaugurated on 20 October 2025, under the high presidency of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.
Techo International Airport replaces Phnom Penh International Airport as the country’s main aviation hub, marking a turning point for both the aviation and economic sectors. The first commercial flight to land was operated by national carrier Air Cambodia, bringing tourists from China, while the final departure from Phnom Penh International Airport was by Korean Air.
Techo International Airport was constructed on a vast area of approximately 2,600 hectares, spanning Kandal Stung district of Kandal province and part of Bati district of Takeo province. Strategically located about 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh, the new airport holds key importance for national development.
As a 4F category airport, Techo International Airport (KTI) is a large-scale facility capable of handling long-haul intercontinental flights, accommodating wide-body aircraft up to Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800. In its first phase, the airport has the capacity to handle up to 13 million passengers annually and manage 26,000 tons of cargo.
The aviation sector remains a vital mode of transportation, connecting tourists, businesses, diplomacy, and multi-purpose missions, while also serving as an important driver of national economic growth. With its clear policy to attract investment, strengthen connectivity, and expand international relations, Cambodia has actively developed this international-standard airport to meet growing travel demands and further promote the country as a key destination.
