(Mondulkiri): Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, conducted a working visit to Mondulkiri Province on September 2–3, 2025, as part of a series of visits to Cambodian provinces bordering Viet Nam.

A number of cooperation issues, including trade, investment, education, and the protection of Indonesian citizens were discussed by Ambassador Santo with the Deputy Governor of Mondulkiri, Cheak Meng Heang.

“Economic cooperation needs to be strengthened, not only around the capital city but also across other provinces, including Mondulkiri, to introduce more Indonesian products in Cambodia,” stated Ambassador Santo during his meeting with the Deputy Governor.

Ambassador Santo noted that several Indonesian products are already available in Mondulkiri and further conveyed that Indonesia can serve as an alternative source of quality consumer goods for the local community. In this regard, he encouraged and invited the participation of Mondulkiri businesspeople in the Trade Expo Indonesia to be held on October 15–19, 2025.

In addition to trade and investment, the Indonesian ambassador also emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation in education in strengthening bilateral ties. Cambodia is among the countries receiving scholarship programs from the Indonesian Government and Indonesian universities. The ambassador hopes that more students from Mondulkiri would apply for these scholarships.

Deputy Governor Cheak Meng Heang welcomed the Embassy’s eagerness to strengthen Indonesia–Cambodia cooperation through engagement with Mondulkiri. He also expressed hopes for Indonesian investors to contribute to the development of the local eco-tourism sector, particularly in building 4- and 5-star accommodations, improving connectivity infrastructure, and developing halal tourism.

During his visit, the ambassador had the opportunity to tour plantations (pepper, durian, rubber, and coffee) and several popular eco-tourism sites to gain insights from local businesses and have better understanding about the province. He also met with the local Police Chief to discuss on consular issues faced by some Indonesians.
