(Hanoi): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen called on To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, at the headquarters of the Party Central Committee in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on 1 September 2025.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, during the meeting, To Lam warmly welcomed Samdech Techo and the Cambodian delegation for their visit and participation in the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and the celebration of Viet Nam’s National Day.
He regarded Samdech Techo’s presence as a clear reflection of the strong and enduring relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam from the past to the present, stressing that Viet Nam highly values its ties with Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed gratitude to To Lam for the warm hospitality extended to him and the Cambodian delegation. Samdech Techo highly valued the significance of the August Revolution of 1945, describing it as a milestone for Viet Nam and an important source of inspiration for independence movements in the region and across the world.
As President of the Cambodian People’s Party, Samdech Techo also expressed satisfaction with the relations between the ruling parties of the two countries, noting that bilateral government-to-government cooperation had also achieved positive results. He underlined that party-to-party relations are the core of Cambodia–Viet Nam ties, and that past high-level meetings between the two parties’ leaders had been vital to advancing bilateral cooperation.
To Lam expressed delight at the positive development of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations and agreed on the importance of strengthening party-to-party cooperation.
He emphasised that past high-level meetings between party leaders had served as a roadmap for deepening bilateral ties, while also contributing to human resource development. He further encouraged both sides, particularly within the framework of the two parties, to continue exchange visits and youth-to-youth linkages to enhance solidarity.
Samdech Techo also highlighted the expansion of bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, defence, and trade. He noted that in the first seven months of this year, Cambodia exported more goods to Viet Nam than it imported. Cambodia’s exports to Viet Nam reached approximately USD 3.8 billion, while Viet Nam’s exports to Cambodia stood at about USD 3.2 billion. He emphasised that this reflects complementarity in bilateral trade, with Cambodia as a supplier of raw materials and Viet Nam as a processor.
In conclusion, both sides expressed satisfaction and agreed to continue promoting bilateral relations for even greater progress in the future.
After the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the high-level delegation attended a banquet hosted by To Lam for leaders and delegations from various countries participating in the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and Viet Nam’s National Day, held in a joyful and friendly atmosphere.
