(Phnom Penh): The recent official visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to the People's Republic of China was highly successful and productive.

Meas Sophorn, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister, spoke shortly after midnight on Tuesday (Sep. 2) at a press conference held upon the return of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit in Tianjin, China.

“Upon arriving in Tianjin, Samdech Thipadei was welcomed with great warmth and honour by representatives of the Chinese government and the Tianjin municipal leadership, followed by a particularly high-level reception from President Xi Jinping himself,” the spokesperson stated.

Prime Minister Hun Manet led a high-level Cambodian delegation to China on 30 August 2025, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and to attend the SCO Plus Summit hosted in Tianjin.

Beyond his participation in the summit, Samdech Thipadei held several important meetings with key international figures. These included bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping; Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank; Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Viet Nam; Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos; Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal; and António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations.

The visit marked a significant step in further enhancing Cambodia’s diplomatic and strategic partnerships within the region, particularly with China and members of the SCO.
