(Phnom Penh): A United States Congressional delegation reaffirmed that the US supports the ceasefire and the return to peace and stability, and that the US will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this process.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Beth Van Duyne, US Representative and Congresswoman for Texas, and delegations on 28 August 2025 at the Peace Palace.
During the talks, Congresswoman Van Duyne praised Cambodia’s achievements in maintaining resilient economic growth, macroeconomic stability, and low inflation over the past decades. She also commended the Royal Government’s pro-investment reforms and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of Cambodia–US relations, particularly in trade and investment. Van Duyne reaffirmed her commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
In response, Samdech Thipadei welcomed the delegation’s visit, stressing that it would further promote Cambodia–US relations and cooperation. He underlined that Cambodia’s economic growth in recent years has been possible due to peace and stability.
Premier Hun Manet conveyed appreciation to US President Donald J. Trump for facilitating the swift ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, which saved many lives. He informed the delegation that Cambodia has nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, in line with requests from Cambodians at home and abroad, as a gesture of gratitude for his personal role in initiating and pushing forward the ceasefire.
Samdech Thipadei also expressed appreciation to the US Government for reducing tariffs on Cambodian imports to 19 per cent effective 1 August 2025. He highlighted the Royal Government’s ongoing reforms, including streamlined investment registration procedures, regular Government–Private Sector Forums to address challenges, concrete investment policies, and incentive packages to attract more foreign investors.
Both sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in key areas such as security and defence, combating transnational crimes, and the repatriation of Cambodian nationals from the US. The premier also briefed the delegation on the progress of Cambodia–Thailand border issues, including the enforcement of the ceasefire, aimed at restoring bilateral relations.
The US delegation reiterated America’s strong support for the ceasefire, peace, and regional stability, underscoring its intention to continue monitoring developments closely.
