(Phnom Penh): On 26 August 2025, the British Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted a pre-departure reception at the British Ambassador’s Residence to honour 13 Cambodians who have been awarded Chevening Scholarships to pursue one-year postgraduate studies in the UK, as well as one Cambodian recipient of the ASEAN-UK SAGE Women in STEM Scholarship, who will undertake a STEM-focused master’s degree during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Over 60 distinguished guests from Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, sponsors, Chevening alumni, and the newly awarded scholars and their parents joined the Embassy to celebrate the occasion.

This year, 14 outstanding Cambodian students are headed to a range of UK universities in fields relevant to the development needs of Cambodia. For instance, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Finance, Climate Change, Education, Business Analytics, Global Development, Commercial Law, Technology Law, Economics, Public Policy and Cyber Security Engineering.

Abigail Fryer, Deputy Head of Mission, said, “I’m delighted that the Chevening programme will welcome 13 scholars to commence their studies in the UK next month. Cambodian scholars will be among them – a group of young outstanding professionals who are heading off to the UK to realise their dreams – to study in some of the UK’s first-class universities and to experience our lifestyle, culture and beautiful country.

I know that our Chevening scholars will return not just with Master’s degrees, but also with new skills, stronger ties to the UK and the confidence to contribute to the development of Cambodia. I wish them all the best as they depart for their studies, and I look forward to hearing all about their experiences, ideas and ambitions on their return.”
