(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that on 25 August 2025, Cambodia sent a diplomatic note to the Thai side to strongly protest against the continuous encroachment actions persistently undertaken by Thai military forces into the Cambodia-Thailand border area, particularly areas where Cambodian people have been living.

The spokesperson spoke on Wednesday (Aug. 27) during a press conference.

On 25 August 2025, starting from 2:20 p.m., Thai military forces attempted to encroach in Chork Chrey village, Ou Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, opposite to Nong Chan village, Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province of Thailand. However, their attempt was strongly resisted by Cambodian villagers and local authorities in Chork Chrey, forcing the Thai troops to withdraw their encroachment.

“On 25 August 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation sent a diplomatic note to the Thai side to strongly protest against the continuous encroachment actions persistently undertaken by Thai military forces into the Cambodia-Thailand border area, especially areas where Cambodian people have been living,” the spokesperson underscored.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, the Royal Government of Cambodia urges the Royal Thai Government and the Thai military to maintain the status quo as agreed when the ceasefire entered into force at 24:00 on 28 July 2025, to take appropriate measures to prevent further violations, to resolve border issues through GBC and JBC mechanisms, and to fully and unconditionally respect all bilateral agreements and international obligations, including the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding, the 28 July 2025 ceasefire agreement, the minutes of the 7 August 2025 extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, and the outcomes of the extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting between Cambodia and Thailand.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to seeking peaceful solutions to border disputes with all neighbouring countries in a spirit of friendship, in accordance with international law, while firmly upholding its principle that borders must not be altered by the use of force.
