(Phnom Penh): Pen Bona, Delegate Minister and Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, urged Cambodians to uphold pacifism and nonviolence by expressing their patriotism with wisdom rather than emotion.
He delivered the appeal on Tuesday (Aug. 26) during a press briefing on the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire.
Pen Bona cautioned that there have been ongoing attempts to provoke Cambodia into losing patience and responding with violence, which could then be manipulated to accuse Cambodia of breaking the ceasefire. He warned that such tactics are a deliberate trap.
"Brothers and sisters, let us preserve the spirit of pacifism and nonviolence through patriotism guided by wisdom, not emotions, so we do not fall into the traps of incitement that seek to divide and weaken the great unity of the Khmer nation," he said.
He added that these hostile elements particularly aim to drive a wedge between the Cambodian people and the Royal Government, as well as between citizens and the armed forces, which is the nation’s firm backbone of defence.
