(Phnom Penh): Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary reaffirmed statement of strong and unwavering support for the Royal Government’s firm stance in fully and strictly implementing the ceasefire agreement, and in resolving the Cambodia–Thailand conflict through peaceful means, friendship, and cooperation in order to bring a swift end to the conflict and restore full peace.

She emphasised that, as the ceasefire remains fragile, the Cambodian National Assembly urges the Thai side to strictly and firmly implement the ceasefire agreement for the supreme interests of both the Cambodian and Thai peoples. At the same time, the National Assembly expressed gratitude, appreciation, and high evaluation for the Royal Government’s efforts in seeking peace for the nation and people, defending Cambodia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty through diplomacy and adherence to international law.

Samdech Khuon Sudary spoke on Monday (Aug. 25) during the 4th Session of the 7th-mandate National Assembly.

“Peace, security, and the well-being of the people are the core priorities of Cambodia’s foreign policy, with the Royal Government consistently striving to seek peace and resolve conflicts with neighbouring countries by peaceful means, in order to build our border areas into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development,” the president underscored.

Once again, the Cambodian National Assembly praised the outcome of the special meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, initiated and co-hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and also ASEAN Chair, and US President Donald Trump, with active participation from the People’s Republic of China, held on 28 July 2025 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. This meeting saved the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people and the entire nation, while also paving the way for the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on 7 August 2025, which agreed on 13 key points for further implementation.

The National Assembly president also called for accelerating the establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team, as well as the preparation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Terms of Reference (TOR) for negotiations as the most essential foundation. She further expressed full support for the Royal Government’s genuine goodwill efforts in promoting these negotiations to restore normalcy in Cambodia–Thailand relations and achieve long-lasting peace.

Through the National Assembly President, the Cambodian National Assembly also conveyed gratitude to international friends who have supported the ceasefire, monitoring, and follow-up actions, thereby making the truce more effective, particularly through the establishment of operational conditions for the Interim Observer Team, led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché to Cambodia, to conduct immediate monitoring.

The National Assembly president expressed appreciation to friendly countries and institutions, especially the European Union, China, Japan, Cambodian Red Cross, International Red Cross, World Vision International, UNICEF, and the Child Protection Unit, for providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of Cambodian displaced persons. This generosity will remain forever engraved in the hearts of the Cambodian people.

On this occasion, once again, the National Assembly also extended its deepest gratitude to the families of military heroes, the armed forces of all units, and Cambodian people both inside and outside the country, who have shown patriotism and solidarity by generously contributing financially and materially, voicing support for peace, backing the armed forces in defending territorial integrity, and demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers detained by Thai troops. These actions have significantly contributed to strengthening national defence, safeguarding territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the core interests of the nation.
