(Phnom Penh): The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia confirmed its readiness to participate as an observer and provide technical support to contribute to the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement aimed at restoring normalcy, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said at a press briefing on Friday morning (Aug. 22).
She underlined that China has paid close attention to the impacts on the people while carefully monitoring the border situation.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working constructively, sincerely, and in close cooperation with Thailand, Malaysia, other ASEAN member states, and all relevant partners, including the United States and China, to ensure the effective and full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and to resolve disputes peacefully in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
According to the Defence Ministry’s spokesperson, as of 6:00 a.m. on 22 August, the situation along Military Region 4 and Military Region 5, covering Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey provinces, remained calm and steady. Cambodian forces have continued to stay vigilant and perform their duties with determination to protect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
