(Phnom Penh): On Wednesday morning (Aug. 20), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn received a courtesy call by Enrico Gaveglia, the newly appointed United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative to the Kingdom of Cambodia, during which he also presented his Letter of Credence.

Minister Prak Sokhonn warmly welcomed and congratulated Enrico Gaveglia on his appointment as UNDP Resident Representative to Cambodia. He affirmed the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to coordinate with relevant line ministries to ensure the success of Enrico Gaveglia’s mission. The minister also expressed appreciation for UNDP’s assistance to the Royal Government of Cambodia on social protection schemes and requested UNDP to continue its support in key areas such as: mine clearance, renewable energy, social equity, youth, cyber challenges, and climate change.

Enrico Gaveglia expressed his pleasure at being assigned to Cambodia. He emphasized that UNDP has supported the Royal Government of Cambodia in realizing its development vision, including the Pentagonal Strategy Phase I, as well as the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. He also commended the Royal Government for its socio-economic development projects, which have helped improve livelihoods in the aftermath of the COVID19 pandemic.

During the meeting, Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed Enrico Gaveglia on the ongoing situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border and on global economic and geopolitical challenges. He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached on 28 July 2025 and to the peaceful settlement of all disputes, in accordance with international law.

In conclusion, the minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to work closely with UNDP and extended his best wishes for the success of Enrico Gaveglia’s mission in Cambodia.
