(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said confirmed that the two-day mission of the ASEAN Interim Observation Team (IOT), conducted from 14–15 August 2025 to inspect the Cambodia–Thailand border, concluded successfully, with the team directly observing the situation along the border between the two countries.

Maly Socheata spoke on Friday (Aug. 15) during a press conference.

The spokesperson mentioned that the ASEAN IOT, comprising defence attachés from seven countries and led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché, under the coordination of Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, visited several sites between 14 and 15 August. These included locations in Battambang province within Military Region 5; in Banteay Meanchey province at the Poipet International Checkpoint, Ou Beichoan Checkpoint, and Boeung Trakuon Checkpoint; and in Preah Vihear province at the Anseh Checkpoint.

She added that during this mission, the ASEAN observers also took the opportunity to inspect potential sites for establishing IOT offices to facilitate operations in Preah Vihear and Banteay Meanchey provinces. The mission concluded successfully and with positive outcomes.
