(Phnom Penh): ChildFund Korea has funded an urgent humanitarian response to more than 957 families displaced by the recent Cambodia-Thailand border dispute. In close partnership with the Reproductive Health Association of Cambodia (RHAC), this emergency intervention is delivering life-saving medical supplies and essential daily necessities to the hardest-hit communities in Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey provinces, with a strong focus on protecting vulnerable children, women, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
The border dispute, which escalated in late July, forced thousands of families from their homes into overcrowded temporary shelters with limited access to healthcare, sanitation, and clean water. Such conditions have heightened the risk of disease outbreaks and left many families without the means to meet their most basic needs. Recognizing the urgent need, ChildFund Korea rapidly mobilized emergency funding to enable RHAC to carry out a targeted relief mission.
In Siem Reap and Banteay MeaChey, the initiative is bolstering the local healthcare system by providing the Provincial Department of Health with 1,700 boxes of essential medicines to treat both acute and chronic illness as well as 100 “Dignity & Health” kits—containing hygiene items, bedding, and food—have been distributed to displaced households to help restore health, safety, and dignity during this crisis.
“The human cost of this displacement is staggering. We are seeing families who have lost everything, living in overcrowded conditions where the risk of disease is growing by the day,” said Saphon Somolireasmey, Associate Executive Director of RHAC. “This emergency response, made possible by the decisive funding from ChildFund Korea, is a lifeline for people in their most vulnerable moments.”
" ChildFund Korea is committed to protecting children and their families in times of crisis," said Jaekyun Rho, Country Director of ChildFund Korea. "By quickly mobilizing resources and working with trusted partners like RHAC, we can ensure that essential aid reaches those who need it most—when it matters most."
This emergency mission, funded by ChildFund Korea and implemented by RHAC in coordination with provincial authorities and community leaders, marks an immediate and targeted contribution to support families affected by the border dispute.
