(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, announced that the working group of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) is preparing for a meeting with the Thai side, to be held within the next two weeks.
She stated, “The RBC working group is preparing for a meeting with the Thai side, which is scheduled to take place within the next two weeks. This meeting aligns with the spirit and agreements established during the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand GBC on 7 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.”
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (Aug. 12), the Defence Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Cambodia hopes this RBC meeting will contribute positively to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and will help restore peace, security, stability and normalcy in the relations between the two countries.
Lieutenant General Socheata stressed that border issues cannot be resolved through the use of force and must instead be addressed through technical and international legal mechanisms. She reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm and unwavering commitment to respecting and strictly implementing the conditions of the ceasefire agreement, as well as the spirit and unity between both sides, as expressed in the GBC extraordinary meeting on 7 August 2025.
She also reiterated that Cambodia will continue to work closely with Thailand, Malaysia, ASEAN member states, and all relevant partners to ensure the effective and full implementation of the ceasefire and to resolve all disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
