(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, strongly emphasised that Cambodia does not support the spread of false or fabricated news that could jeopardize the ceasefire between the two armed forces, as agreed at the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held in Malaysia.
The spokesperson spoke on Saturday (Aug. 9) during a press conference.
“Cambodia resolutely opposes the dissemination, sharing, or fabrication of false information, because such actions not only fail to help ease tensions and reduce the negative impact on public sentiment, but also hinder the creation of a conducive atmosphere for peaceful dialogue,” the spokesperson underscored.
The spokesperson continued, Cambodia would like to reiterate its unwavering commitment to respecting and strictly implementing all the terms of the ceasefire agreement, as well as the spirit and content reached at the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Border Committee on 7 August 2025.
The spokesperson reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to work constructively, in good faith and in close cooperation with ASEAN member countries and all relevant partners to ensure the effective and full implementation of the ceasefire and to resolve all disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
