(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the ministry strongly rejects the provocative accusation by the Thai military, which claimed that Cambodia is conducting a “cognitive warfare” operation to distort the truth. He further noted that such remarks are not only baseless but also undermine the ongoing dialogue efforts.

Chum Sounry spoke on Friday (Aug. 8) during a press conference.

“Cambodia firmly refutes the inflammatory and misleading allegations made by the Thai military command, which were publicly disseminated on social media yesterday. These irresponsible accusations, labelling Cambodia as conducting what the Thai military calls ‘cognitive warfare’ are entirely unfounded. They obstruct current efforts aimed at securing peace, dialogue, and stability," the spokesperson underscored.

On this occasion, he also urged the Thai authorities to exercise restraint and professionalism in their public communications, and to avoid issuing unfounded statements that may threaten the fragile peace and the bilateral relations between the two countries.

It should be noted that the Thai military has frequently used Khaosod English and The Nation Thailand to spread false information. In the past, the Club of Cambodian Journalists also called upon Thai media to uphold strict professional standards and ethical journalism, particularly by thoroughly verifying information prior to publication, as such reporting has damaged Cambodia’s reputation and caused confusion among both the national and international public, as well as the citizens of both countries.
