Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that the Ministry of National Defence, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), and the international community will continue to demand that Thailand comply with international humanitarian law and promptly release all 18 detained Cambodian soldiers to return to Cambodia.

Maly Socheata spoke on Friday (Aug. 8) during a press conference.

The spokesperson added that Cambodia hopes for the immediate return of the 18 detained Cambodian soldiers, in response to growing calls from several international partners and institutions.

"The Ministry of National Defence, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, together with the international community, will continue to press until Thailand fulfills its obligations under international humanitarian law. We will not abandon any of our family members (the 18 soldiers) or leave them isolated," the spokesperson underscored.

Cambodia reaffirmed its clear, firm, and unwavering commitment to upholding and sincerely implementing the ceasefire agreement as a responsible and law-abiding member of the international community, ensuring effective and comprehensive enforcement of the ceasefire and resolving all disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law and ASEAN norms.
