(Phnom Penh): The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Cambodia Santo Darmosumarto, visited Kampot Province and met with Governor Mao Thonin on 6 August 2025.

Ambassador Santo applauded the Provincial Government for its achievements in developing facilities and attractions for local and international tourists. "I am convinced that Kampot will become a preferred destination for those looking for the natural beauty and rich cultural traditions of Cambodia," he affirmed.

Ambassador Santo also expressed hope that the economic ties between Indonesia and Kampot Province would grow. As a producer of some of Cambodia's iconic produce, like pepper and durian, there is tremendous potential for stronger trade cooperation.

Governor Mao Thonin agreed on the prospects of greater cooperation with Indonesia. He highlighted Kampot Province's readiness to welcome foreign investors, including Indonesian businesses, in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, and tourism.

The two officials also discussed on the growth of the Indonesian community in Kampot. Ambassador Santo extended his sincerest appreciation for the local authorities' assistance in ensuring that Indonesians living and working in Kampot are safe, comfortable, and productive. "We hope that Indonesians living in Kampot would contribute positively to the local community", he added.

During his stay in Kampot Province, and to better understand the province's economic potential, Ambassador Santo visited a spring water factory and a pepper plantation. He also met with members of the Kampot Province Chamber of Commerce. At local supermarkets, the Ambassador noted numerous Indonesian products being preferred by the local consumers.
