(Siem Reap): UN agencies praised Cambodia for its strong commitment to supporting displaced persons and reaffirmed their dedication to working alongside the Royal Government of Cambodia and all relevant partners to continue humanitarian efforts and assist displaced communities in restoring their livelihoods following the recent crisis.

During a two-day field visit from 6-7 August 2025, UN agencies, embassies, and Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation visited temporary shelters for displaced people in Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap provinces.

The UN welcomed the ceasefire and called on both Cambodia and Thailand to fully respect the agreement in the pursuit of long-lasting peace. During the visit, UN representatives and partners witnessed the difficult conditions displaced communities face, noting that some families are in severe need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The UN commended humanitarian partners' efforts and swift response, including local authorities, UN agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, and volunteers who have tirelessly provided safe spaces, temporary shelter, and essential services to those affected since the conflict erupted.

Ongoing relief efforts include providing clean water, sanitation, shelter, food (including rice), healthcare, education, and protection services. During community engagements, displaced persons also called for peace and a safe return to their homes, identifying this as a top priority for collective support.

According to data from Soutr Nikom District (from 25 July to 6 August 2025), 652 households (2,276 people) have taken temporary shelter in the area. This includes 966 children, 110 elderly, 19 persons with disabilities, and 31 pregnant women.

At the temporary safe site at Wat Banteay Srei, located in Banteay Srei Village, Dam Daek Commune, Sout Nikom District, Siem Reap Province, 614 households (1,874 people) are currently sheltered, including 1,049 women and 857 children.
