(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that the situation in the Anseh area is calm, with tensions de-escalated after Cambodian forces dismantled barbed wire installed by Thai troops.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday (Aug. 6) on the current status of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata reported that the entire Cambodia–Thailand border is peaceful, with no shots fired. In Anseh specifically, the situation remained stable as of 6:00 p.m. on August 5.
It should be noted that on August 4, Thai forces crossed into Cambodian territory, laid barbed wire, and used machinery to dig trenches and insert logs and vehicle tires despite Cambodian warnings and the ongoing ceasefire.
According to the Defence Ministry, serious negotiations took place on August 5 at 3:14 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., Cambodian forces had successfully removed the barbed wire, and Thai machinery operations were suspended.
The spokesperson emphasized that Anseh area lies within Cambodian territory and is fully controlled by the Cambodian armed forces after the ceasefire agreement came into force. Cambodia remains committed to upholding peace and cooperation along its borders while resolutely defending its sovereignty.
