(Phnom Penh): Government Spokesperson Pen Bona stated that the false information being spread by Thai military officials and media, intended to divide the unity between the Cambodian people and the Royal Government of Cambodia, is ultimately useless. On the contrary, he emphasized that this only strengthens the solidarity between the Cambodian population and their government.

Speaking at a press conference summarizing the ceasefire implementation as of 4:00 p.m. on August 5, Pen Bona responded to what he called fabricated narratives disseminated by Thai officials and media, allegedly aimed at destabilizing the Cambodian government and undermining national unity.

“The method they’re using is ineffective, as the public already has broad access to accurate information,” Pen Bona asserted. “Cambodian citizens are well-informed and capable of clearly distinguishing between right and wrong, truth and lies. Therefore, any attempt to spread fabricated accusations against Cambodia’s leadership with the intent to break the bond between the people and their leaders is simply pointless.”

According to Pen Bona, when Thailand fabricates false narratives, it turns around and accuses Cambodia of being the source of disinformation. He added that both Cambodian citizens and the international community completely reject these Thai fabrications.

Furthermore, Pen Bona stressed that this is a time for both sides to implement the agreed terms in good faith. He urged Thailand to address its own internal issues without dragging Cambodia into them through false reporting, noting that the general public is already widely informed and Cambodian people can clearly discern misinformation.
