(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rejected Thailand’s claim that the ceasefire agreement was a diplomatic victory for the Thai side, calling the assertion baseless.

Chum Sounry spoke on Friday (Aug. 1) during a press conference on the current status of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire.

“Regarding Thailand’s claim that the ceasefire agreement was a diplomatic success for them, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that this ceasefire was achieved through the constructive initiative of the ASEAN Chair (Malaysia), the United States, China, and the active participation and patience of Cambodia. It is not a diplomatic victory for Thailand,” the spokesperson underscored.

It should be noted that the armed clash between Cambodia and Thailand erupted on the morning of 24 July 2025, at the Ta Moan Thom Temple area in Oddar Meanchey Province, and later spread to other locations along the Cambodia–Thailand border. The fighting was triggered by a Thai military offensive at the Ta Moan Temple area.

Following negotiations held in Malaysia on 28 July 2025, both sides agreed to an urgent and unconditional ceasefire, which officially came into effect at 12:00 AM on the night of 28 July 2025. Since the ceasefire took effect, Cambodia has not violated it at any time.
