(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that Cambodia rejects Thailand’s accusation of engaging in an information war, calling it merely a Thai attempt to divert international attention.

Chum Sounry spoke on Friday (Aug. 1) during a press conference on the current status of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire.

He stressed that Cambodia’s diplomacy on the international stage is based on integrity, transparency, and legitimacy, contrary to Thailand’s accusations. Cambodia will continue to engage with ASEAN, the United Nations, and other international partners to help ease tensions.

Regarding the claims by Thai media that the ceasefire was a success solely due to Thailand’s efforts, the Cambodian foreign ministry spokesperson clarified that the ceasefire initiative came from the ASEAN rotating chair, with the support of US President Donald Trump and the strong commitment of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, not solely from Thailand.

He also rejected the Thai media’s repeated accusation that Cambodia violated the ceasefire, which officially came into effect at 12:00 midnight on 28 July 2025.

The spokesperson reaffirmed the rejection of Thailand’s allegations, denouncing them as a political manoeuvre to distract the global community from Thailand’s own actions. Cambodia, in contrast, remains committed to fact-based communication and welcomes independent international observation of all affected border areas.

He reiterated that Cambodia adheres to peaceful and diplomatic solutions, calling on Thailand to stop provocative rhetoric and respect international agreements and norms.
