(Phnom Penh): Sun Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), announced that starting from 1 August 2025, all import duties on goods from the United States into Cambodia will be reduced to 0 per cent, including second-hand cars. While the customs duty drops to zero, other taxes such as special tax and VAT will still be applied as usual.

Sun Chanthol spoke on Friday (Aug. 1) during a press conference.

“As of today (Aug. 1), the import duty for goods from the US to Cambodia is zero per cent across the board. This includes used cars, which will now also be subject to 0 per cent customs duty. Let me clarify. There are 11,414 tariff lines involved, and all are reduced to zero so long as the products are imported from the US,” he underscored

Sun Chanthol continued, “This implementation starts today. I want to clarify again. Only the customs duties are zeroed, other taxes like the special tax and VAT remain unchanged.”

He further appealed that, “Please continue to trust the Royal Government under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. The core goals of the Royal Government are to protect national interests and territorial integrity, create jobs, and reduce poverty to drive national development.”

“I had previously said on 7 July 2025, that people should trust the Royal Government when we said the 36 per cent US tariff back then would not last. Now, we see the result. As of this morning, it has dropped to just 19 per cent. So when the government says it will do something, we mean it. We don’t make empty promises,” he concluded.
