(Phnom Penh): Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has extended heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the two Cambodian soldiers who were injured and unjustly detained by Thai forces just eight hours after the ceasefire took effect. Both soldiers have now been safely repatriated.
Samdech Techo wrote on Friday (Aug. 1) on his social media as follows:
“After wrapping up a meeting with military commanders, I listened to a live broadcast by my younger brother, Sam Vathana, in the US regarding President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce reciprocal tariffs on Cambodian goods from 49 percent to 19 percent.
I never imagined that while briefly napping in a chair, unaware I was being secretly photographed by four people, I would be awakened by the uplifting news that our two soldiers, who were injured and unjustly detained by the Thai side eight hours after the ceasefire, had been safely returned to Cambodia.”
I extend my heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery to our two courageous soldiers. The entire nation has been waiting anxiously for their return.”
