(Phnom Penh): Pen Bona, Delegate Minister and Head of the Government Spokesperson Unit, reminded Cambodians both domestically and overseas to remain vigilant against fake news, particularly misleading information originating from Thailand regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.
Speaking at a press conference summarizing the outcomes of the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, Pen Bona said that despite Cambodia’s official denials, Thai media continues to accuse Cambodia of violating the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28 in Malaysia.
He added that fake news is being used by the Thai side as a strategic weapon to manipulate both national and international public opinion.
Pen Bona underscored, "Therefore, as the government spokesperson, I would like to once again reaffirm to both the national and international public the following: Firstly, I urge all Cambodians, wherever they are, to be extremely cautious of fake news, especially information from Thailand, whether from official media or social networks. Some of this content is deliberately designed to mislead public sentiment and undermine our strong national unity. I call on everyone to verify information before believing it.”
Pen Bona reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to peace, development, and adherence to the ceasefire agreement, noting that many world leaders have welcomed the truce as a significant step toward regional stability.
Cambodia does not seek conflict with any country, he concluded. Thailand’s accusations that Cambodia is violating the ceasefire are false and contradict the Royal Government of Cambodia’s firm stance for peace.
