(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed on Wednesday (Jul. 3) that the immediate and unconditional ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand has been successfully implemented.

Speaking at a press conference, Maly Socheata credited the cessation of all gunfire along the frontlines as evidence of the ceasefire’s success. The truce, agreed upon during a special meeting in Malaysia, took effect at midnight on 28 July 2025.

She noted that regional military commanders held informal discussions on 29 July to reinforce the truce. Additionally, ASEAN-led forces and military attachés convened to ensure proper coordination and monitoring.

“Among the positive outcomes of the ceasefire is the ability to gradually implement the truce agreement and ensure that the war is replaced by peace,” she underscored.

It should be noted that armed clashes between Cambodia and Thailand broke out on 24 July 2025 at the area of Ta Moan Thom Temple in Oddar Meanchey province and later spread to other areas along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The conflict erupted after Thai forces launched the first strike near the temple.
