(Geneva): Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary held a bilateral meeting with Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam, on 29 July 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, while both leaders were attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
Both sides warmly welcomed each other and exchanged updates on the political, social, and economic situations in their respective countries. The Vietnamese side extended his warm congratulations to Cambodia on the recent declaration of a ceasefire in the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute. He praised the move toward a peaceful resolution through comprehensive negotiations and expressed Vietnam’s continued support for the agreed ceasefire as a close and longstanding neighbour.
The two leaders strongly reaffirmed the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability of relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam.
They expressed appreciation for the consistent mutual support in all circumstances, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The historical foundation of this friendship was highlighted, with Cambodia recognizing Vietnam’s role in helping liberate the country from the Pol Pot regime in 1979, and Vietnam acknowledging Cambodia’s support during its struggle for national independence and unification five decades ago.
Samdech Khuon Sudary and Chairman Tran Thanh Man pledged to continue working closely to effectively implement the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two National Assemblies. They emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation through active exchanges among young parliamentarians, parliamentary friendship groups, commissions, and the Secretariats-General of both legislatures, while also fostering stronger ties at the leadership level.
The two sides also exchanged views on political, social, and economic developments and reiterated their shared commitment to enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation for the benefit of their respective peoples and the wider region.
