(Phnom Penh): Pen Bona, Cambodian Delegate Minister and Chairman of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, dismissed all allegations that Cambodia fired first or violated the ceasefire, asserting that armed conflict is something Cambodia strives to avoid at all costs.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday morning (Jul. 30).
“Recently, we have heard a number of accusations that Cambodia is the aggressor, that Cambodia invaded, that Cambodia fired first. Now we’re hearing yet another claim that Cambodia violated the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All of these accusations are entirely unreasonable and unfounded toward Cambodia,” the spokesperson underscored.
He further emphasised that the Royal Government, led by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, has introduced Pentagonal Strategy Phase One, aimed at achieving Cambodia’s 2050 vision of becoming a high-income country, founded upon lasting peace.
“Therefore, it is imperative for Cambodia to preserve peace, which is the precondition for national development. Armed conflict or war is exactly what Cambodia must avoid above all,” he affirmed.
At the same time, Pen Bona noted that over the past three decades, peace has become part of Cambodia’s national identity. That is why the Royal Government of Cambodia places the highest value on safeguarding peace regardless of the cost.
