(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, firmly denied allegations by the Royal Thai Army Ground Forces claiming that a clash occurred after the ceasefire took effect.
Maly Socheata spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 29) during a press conference on the current situation along Cambodia-Thailand border.
“In my capacity as the spokesperson of Ministry of National Defence, we firmly reject the claim made by the spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army Ground Forces alleging that a clash had occurred The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have strictly followed all orders and agreements under the ceasefire, which has been in effect since midnight on July 28, 2025,” the spokesperson underscored.
Clashes between Cambodia and Thailand began on 24 July 2025, near Ta Moan Temple in Oddar Meanchey province after Thai forces launched the first attack. The fighting spread along the border until both nations agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, following a special meeting in Malaysia mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chair Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump, with strong support from China.
