(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that Cambodia’s Military Region 5 is holding talks with Thailand’s Military Region 1 at the Kbal Spean area, while Cambodia’s Military Region 4 will meet Thailand’s Military Region 2 at O’Smach at 10:00 a.m. today.

Maly Socheata spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 29) during a press conference.

“At this hour, Cambodia’s Military Region 5 is in talks with Thailand’s Military Region 1 at Kbal Spean, a meeting that began at 7:00 a.m. As for Military Region 4, they are scheduled to meet Thailand’s Military Region 2 at O’Smach at exactly 10:00 a.m.,” the spokesperson underscored.

She added that a separate Zoom meeting is also being held at 9:00 a.m. between Cambodia’s Military Region 3 Command and Thai border commands in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces.

The spokesperson stressed the need for a monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure the full and accurate implementation of the ceasefire agreement. This mechanism would include military liaison groups led by ASEAN Chair Malaysia, working alongside other countries to restore normalcy and improve Cambodia–Thailand relations.

She noted that Malaysia will also consult other ASEAN member states to jointly support observation efforts, reflecting regional goodwill and a shared commitment to peace.
