(Phnom Penh): Pen Bona, Cambodian Delegate Minister and Chairman of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, said that during a phone call between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and US President Donald Trump, the US president emphasised the necessity of a monitoring mechanism to effectively implement the ceasefire. He confirmed that the United States would participate in observing the Cambodia–Thailand border to help ensure lasting peace.

Pen Bona spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 29) during a press conference.

He further highlighted that US President Donald Trump applauded the immediate ceasefire agreement between the two countries and regarded this initiative as a key mission which he is personally monitoring.

"Alongside this, President Donald Trump affirmed to Samdech Thipadei that for the agreement to be fully and sustainably implemented, there must be a clear mechanism for monitoring and verification by all relevant parties. This point was already included in the consensus reached during the meeting in Kuala Lumpur," the spokesperson underscored.

In this context, Pen Bona stressed that President Trump agreed for the US to participate in the verification process of the ceasefire agreement and to continue cooperating with the mechanism arranged by Malaysia to ensure its successful implementation. President Trump considers this a special mission and wishes to see permanent peace between the two countries.
