(Phnom Penh): U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed for the United States to join in monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

This agreement was reached during a phone conversation on Monday night (Jul. 28) between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and President Trump.

Prime Minister Hun Manet wrote on his social media that after returning to Cambodia from Malaysia, where he successfully negotiated an urgent ceasefire between Cambodian and Thai forces, he received a direct call from President Trump.

The U.S. president congratulated Samdech Thipadei on the success of the negotiations, emphasizing the importance of the ceasefire and confirming that he had personally followed its developments.

During the call, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed deep appreciation to President Trump for initiating and supporting the swift ceasefire talks, as well as for the U.S. role as a co-organizer of the special meeting held in Malaysia.

Samdech Thipadei highlighted that both leaders agreed on the need for a clear monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure the full and sustainable implementation of the ceasefire.

In this context, President Trump confirmed that the United States would take part in monitoring the ceasefire and continue working with the mechanism established by Malaysia to ensure its success.

The U.S. president described this task as both critical and special, expressing his hope for lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand.
