(Phnom Penh): Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), wrote on his social media on Monday (Jul. 28) that hai forces have bombarded the Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, using MK-82 bombs and 155mm artillery shells with cluster submunitions in an attempt to destroy the historic temple.
He continued that, in the spirit of defending national sovereignty and the ancestral heritage of the Khmer people, Cambodia’s brave and valiant armed forces have successfully counterattacked and repelled the invading troops.
For over 50 years, since May 1975, the sound of MK-82 bomb explosions had been absent from this kingdom. Even during past conflicts, no MK-82 bombs were ever dropped on Preah Vihear Temple.
He further revealed that Preah Vihear Temple is a profoundly sacred site, even former Siamese monarchs would take holy water from this temple during their coronation rituals to affirm their divine authority. Therefore, any state or person who destroys Preah Vihear Temple will unavoidably suffer catastrophic karmic consequences.
