(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted three significant signs of growing international support for facilitating conflict resolution between Cambodia and Thailand.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday (July 27), Chum Sounry emphasized that the international community is increasingly supporting Cambodia’s call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and for resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
Citing international media reports on July 26, he noted statements from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, ASEAN’s rotating chair, which included three notable points:
1. Malaysia will continue to push for a Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire.
2. Both Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to the proposal in principle.
3. The Malaysian prime minister has instructed his foreign minister to coordinate with both Cambodian and Thai counterparts to advance the ceasefire initiative.
Chum Sounry added that Prime Minister Anwar is ready to personally engage with both parties if necessary. Cambodia, he confirmed, has already accepted Malaysia’s ceasefire proposal, as raised during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s meeting with Anwar on July 24, 2025.
