(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that during the emergency UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting, Cambodia’s Permanent Representative in New York, speaking before Thailand, highlighted Thailand’s large-scale assault on Cambodia using F-16 fighter jets, tanks, cluster bombs, and heavy weaponry, which have inflicted civilian casualties and damaged cultural heritage sites.
“Cambodia’s Permanent Representative informed the UNSC of Thailand’s large-scale offensive on Cambodian territories since July 24, 2025, targeting Ta Krabei Temple, Ta Moan Thom Temple, and Preah Vihear Temple, while deploying advanced military assets, including F-16s and cluster munitions,” Sounry said.
Cambodia also underscored the civilian deaths and destruction of cultural landmarks caused by Thailand’s attacks. In its address, Cambodia called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Chum Sounry made these remarks during a government press conference on Saturday (Jul. 26).
He also referenced a UNSC report circulated before the meeting, which noted:
1. Cambodia formally requested the emergency session before Thailand responded, while Thailand never sought such a meeting.
2. The Malaysian prime minister, as ASEAN chair, proposed a ceasefire, which Cambodia accepted. Thailand initially agreed but later reversed its position.
