(Phnom Penh): Kung Phoak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hoped that the Thai Government and the Thai people, as a law-abiding nation, will uphold dignity and refrain from acts of violence against Cambodian nationals residing in Thailand.
Kung Phoak spoke on Friday (Jul. 25) during a press conference on the outcomes of the meeting between Cambodian diplomats and foreign envoys at the Ministry.
“We have acted responsibly and professionally. Our top leadership has issued clear instructions to maintain good relations with the people, to avoid escalation, and we expect the same from Thailand as a responsible, law-respecting state,” Kung Phoak underscored.
He further affirmed that Cambodia will continue to respond to the needs and requests of Cambodian nationals living in Thailand and will lodge protests or officially notify the Thai side in the event of any violence against its citizens.
Regarding Cambodian migrants in Thailand, he praised the leadership and civil servants of all levels for their swift and calm response following the eruption of conflict triggered by Thai incursions. Authorities immediately advised Cambodian citizens to maintain calm, mutual respect, and dignity principles that underpin state-to-state relations.
He added that Cambodia as a responsible and law-abiding state, remains committed to these principles.
Moreover, he affirmed that Cambodian diplomatic missions in Thailand remain operational. Despite the tense situation, Cambodian embassy and consular officials continue to carry out their duties, ensuring all necessary support and assistance to Cambodian citizens working in various regions across Thailand.
