(Phnom Penh): Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, asserted that Cambodia has called on the international community to strongly condemn Thailand for its violations of Cambodian territory and to demand the immediate withdrawal of Thai troops.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata reported that bombs were dropped from F-16 fighter jets belonging to the Siamese invading forces onto the Preah Vihear temple complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, causing damage to parts of the structure.
She emphasized that the Siamese forces have deployed heavy weaponry and bombed Cambodian territory, resulting in explosions near Cambodian civilians who were in the process of evacuating, as well as damaging pagodas and other important locations.
The spokesperson stated, “Cambodia calls upon the international community to condemn Thailand without hesitation and in the strongest terms for its illegal actions, and Thailand must be held fully accountable for its serious violations.”
She also stressed that Cambodia demands Thailand immediately cease all military aggression on Cambodian territory and withdraw its troops, which have caused escalating tensions in the border region.
The spokesperson firmly reiterated that Cambodia adheres to a defensive policy, targeting only military objectives and never civilian areas. She underlined that the Royal Government, the armed forces, and the people of Cambodia stand united in safeguarding national sovereignty and dignity at any cost. She appealed to all Cambodian citizens to join in supporting and standing alongside the government and armed forces to further strengthen the defence of the country’s sovereignty.
It should be noted that July 25, 2025, marks the second day of Thailand’s invasion of Cambodian territory, following an armed clash that began on the morning of July 24, 2025, at the Ta Moan Thom temple area in Oddar Meanchey province. The conflict has since spread to other battle zones along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The fighting reportedly erupted after the Thai side initiated the first attack at the Ta Moan Thom temple area.
