(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his full support for the Roya Government of Cambodia’s decision to close the Doung Border Checkpoint between Cambodia and Thailand in Battambang Province on Friday (Jun. 13).

Samdech Techo wrote on his social media on Friday (Jun. 13) as follows:

“I express my support for the Royal Government's decision to close the Doung border checkpoint between Cambodia and Thailand in Battambang province. Thailand has been transporting hundreds of truckloads of fruit per day through this route to Viet Nam, but today the border is congested after Cambodia’s closure.

I urge Thai farmers, who are currently harvesting their crops, to protest directly to the Thai military, because Cambodia will reopen this checkpoint only when all border crossings—unilaterally closed by the Thai military—are returned to normal coordination as before.

We have long been aware of this issue, but we chose not to disrupt the livelihoods of ordinary people. However, the time has now come for us to respond by targeting just three small but strategic points: 1) Halting purchases of internet services, 2) Suspending the broadcast of Thai films, and 3) Closing the Doung checkpoint, directly impacting fruit exports. These are Cambodia’s responses, enacted within just 12 hours.”
