(Nice): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Sepp Schellhorn, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, on 9 June 2025, on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3).

During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Austria for their contributions and support in mine clearance, human resource development, and the work of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). He emphasised that both countries have numerous potential sectors through which bilateral cooperation can be further advanced.

Premier Hun Manet also underscored the significance of establishing a bilateral consultation mechanism and encouraged the foreign ministries of both nations to continue discussions with the aim of formalising this framework in the near future. The objective is to assess the progress of past collaboration and identify additional areas for future partnership.

Sepp Schellhorn reaffirmed Austria’s ongoing cooperation with Cambodia in the fields of mine clearance and human resource training. He also welcomed the involvement of young Cambodian diplomats in pursuing diplomatic studies at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Austria.

He further requested Cambodia’s support for Austria’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

Both sides continued their discussion on climate change, with Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highlighting Cambodia's ongoing efforts, progress, and accomplishments in addressing the issue. The premier outlined various national initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and the energy transition, particularly through the expansion of renewable energy. He noted that renewable sources currently constitute 62 per cent of Cambodia’s energy mix, with a target to increase this to 70 per cent by 2030.
