(Ratanakiri): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified that development efforts in Cambodia’s northeastern provinces, including Ratanakiri, are not intended to seize land or jobs from local residents. Rather, he stressed, the purpose is solely to stimulate economic growth and foster progress in the region.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Jun. 7) at the inauguration of school buildings and achievements in the education sector in Ratanakiri Province.
In his address, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasized that the development initiatives in Ratanakiri aim to deliver benefits for all—without exclusion, discrimination, or marginalization of indigenous or minority communities.
“If we see accelerated economic growth here, it is because citizens from other provinces are increasingly seeking job opportunities and development prospects in this region. They come to do business, earn a living, and seek employment here—leading to rising activity,” Samdech Thipadei stated.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also expressed hope that local residents would remain welcoming and not harbour resentment toward newcomers from other provinces who come to invest or work in Ratanakiri. He reaffirmed that these newcomers are not here to take land from local people, but to contribute to the province’s economic strength and support its broader development.
