(Phnom Penh): Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni encouraged all ministries, institutions, sub-national administrations, the private sector, educational institutions, national and international development partners, and all relevant stakeholders to continue their full cooperation and support for the Ministry of Environment. The aim is to fulfil a shared mission of building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world, in line with the motto “Clean Cambodia, Khmer Can Do It”.
King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the Royal Ceremony commemorating National and World Environment Day on Thursday (Jun.5).
The king expressed heartfelt gratitude to Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, for his comprehensive report on the Ministry’s achievements in protecting and conserving Cambodia’s natural resources and environment, efforts made by both the ministry’s leadership and its civil servants.
King Norodom Sihamoni also underlined that Cambodia is a beautiful and naturally abundant homeland, a cherished legacy passed down from our ancestors. From majestic mountain ranges and lush green forests to the Mekong River, the bountiful Tonle Sap Lake, pristine coastlines, and clusters of islands, these natural treasures are the lifeblood of our existence and form a vital part of our national identity.
The king noted that the joint celebration of National and World Environment Day serves as a collective expression of environmental awareness. Organised by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the occasion underscores the importance of environmental protection. The king also conveyed deep appreciation for the participation of senior monks, national leaders, and Cambodian citizens in preserving the environment, conserving biodiversity, and advancing sustainable development.
Cambodian king described it as both a powerful reminder and a call to action. Tackling plastic pollution, he stated, is not the responsibility of any single person or institution—it is a shared duty that involves government bodies, the private sector, civil society, local communities, families, and individuals at all levels, national, regional, and international.
The king underscored, “With royal compassion, I wish to encourage all ministries, institutions, sub-national administrations, private sector actors, educational institutions, and national and international development partners, as well as all stakeholders, to continue their full cooperation and support with the Ministry of Environment to achieve our shared mission: a clean, green, and sustainable world, guided by the motto ‘Clean Cambodia, Khmer Can Do It.’”
The king also used the occasion to extend his gratitude to friendly nations, national and international development partners, civil society, the private sector, and all other stakeholders for their contributions to environmental protection and conservation. He called on all parties to continue these invaluable efforts in support of the Royal Government and for the benefit of the global community.
The king dedicated National and World Environment Day to the hearts of all Cambodians, expressing his wish for it to become a long-standing tradition that fosters public awareness on the sustainable management and use of natural resources.
