(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that during the 20 months since taking office, he has confronted and addressed a series of significant and complex challenges.

Samdech Thipadei spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 3) during the second day of the joint congress focused on the agricultural sector.

The premier noted that the first 20 months of the new Royal Government have been marked by emerging issues and pressing difficulties. These began in a time of global economic uncertainty, driven by the lingering impacts of the post-COVID19 crisis, inflation, and ongoing international conflicts. Key sectors such as tourism and real estate were still undergoing a slow recovery. Nonetheless, Cambodia has managed to maintain stability and make steady progress in addressing these challenges.

The premier highlighted one major incident on 18 August 2024, when the government successfully safeguarded national security against an attempted violent insurrection. This attempt, linked to issues surrounding the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA), was effectively addressed by the authorities.

The prime minister also pointed to an emerging challenge related to global taxation measures proposed by the United States. On 4 June 2025, a Cambodian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol is scheduled to begin the second round of negotiations in the US. Additionally, new issues have surfaced concerning Cambodia’s border affairs.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet affirmed, “Over the past 20 months, we have encountered and addressed a wide range of new and complex issues. These challenges have provided valuable opportunities for our new leadership team to grow, adapt, and develop solutions to support national development. Despite the obstacles, we remain firmly committed to continued progress and future achievements.”

He also expressed gratitude to the previous generation of leaders for their tireless efforts in building and preserving a strong foundation of peace, which has enabled the current government to move forward.
