(Phnom Penh): Cambodian President of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, stated that although some individuals publicly criticise him, this does not necessarily mean they oppose him. In many cases, their criticisms are strategies to curry favour or align themselves with the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP). He further noted that certain opposition figures are, in fact, covert affiliates of the CPP.

Samdech Techo spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 3) during the second day of the joint congress focusing on the agricultural sector.

He cited the case of Long Bunny, who, despite being affiliated with the CPP, was nominated as a candidate by the former CNRP. He added that similarly, when the Candlelight Party nominated candidates for elections, they also included individuals from the CPP—facilitated by Samdech Techo himself. As a result, the ruling party suffered considerable vote losses during the commune and sangkat council elections.

Samdech Techo concluded that this is a strategic method of political organisation.
