(Kandal): On Tuesday (Jun. 3), British Ambassador to Cambodia, Dominic Williams, stated that Cambodia’s Techo International Airport, located in Takhmao City, Kandal Province, will project the image of a modern nation with a forward-looking vision to international visitors.
Ambassador Williams spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 3) during a visit he led to review the progress of the Techo International Airport project in Kandal Province.
Speaking to press during what marked his fifth visit to the site, Ambassador Williams remarked, “I believe international visitors arriving here will see that Cambodia is a modern country with a clear vision for the future.”
He further shared his belief that international guests arriving at the new airport will be able to witness Cambodia’s vast potential. He added that British visitors often tell him, “Cambodia is better than we had expected before coming here.”
Ambassador Williams also noted that the new airport will reshape international perceptions of Cambodia. More importantly, he stressed that Cambodians themselves should take pride in this new facility, as it represents what the nation is capable of achieving.
He mentioned that he frequently presents updates on the Techo International Airport to British companies and the UK Government, and actively promotes the project through short video clips on his social media platforms.
It is worth noting that the Techo International Airport is being constructed on a total land area of 2,600 hectares, located 19 kilometres from Phnom Penh. The airport is classified as a 4F international facility and is being developed in three phases. Investment for the first phase alone amounts to USD 1.5 billion, excluding land acquisition costs.
As a 4F airport, Techo International Airport will be capable of handling long-haul intercontinental flights and accommodating large aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800.
According to Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, the airport is scheduled to commence operations on 9 September 2025, with the official inauguration ceremony set for 20 October 2025 under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
