(Phnom Penh): The landmark joint congress of the Senate, National Assembly, and Royal Government on 2 June 2025 concluded its first day with productive outcomes after nearly 17 hours of continuous deliberations, marking a significant step in institutional collaboration.
The session, which began at 8:00 a.m. and extended until 12:22 a.m. on 3 June, addressed three key national issues: the social protection system, the informal economy, and the agricultural sector.
From morning until 6:00 p.m., members thoroughly examined the social protection system. Following a two-hour break, the congress resumed at 8:30 p.m. to tackle the informal economy—successfully completing the second agenda item by 12:30 a.m.
Presiding over the session, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed the importance of completing the second topic on Day 1 to keep the overall schedule on track. He described the marathon meeting as a test of stamina and commitment for all participants, and announced plans for a press conference following the congress’s conclusion.
The joint congress served as a vital forum for direct engagement between lawmakers and government officials, fostering transparent dialogue on key development priorities and reinforcing national unity in governance.
