(Phnom Penh): On 29 May 2025, Roth Saravuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, presided over the “Team Canada Trade Mission Plenary Session” organized by the Embassy of Canada to Cambodia.

The event took place at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh with the goal of reinforcing and expanding business collaboration between Cambodia and Canada.

On this occasion, Saravuth presented the potential for investment in Cambodia to Canadian businesses. He highlighted factors such as Cambodia’s strategic location in a region conducive to exports within ASEAN and across Asia, and the government's strong legal support for private sector investment. This includes laws on investment, e-commerce, and competition. Cambodia offers a highly promising market, being a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and enjoys preferential trade schemes like the GSP and EBA, in addition to having multiple bilateral free trade agreements.

The secretary of state added that 60% of Cambodia’s population is under the age of 35, representing a skilled and youthful workforce. This offers an opportunity for investors to engage in development and harness human capital to promote innovation, productivity, and sustainable business growth. Cambodia has fully implemented its WTO commitments on trade in services to ensure a transparent, fair, and investor-friendly business environment. Additionally, the country has established 54 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) strategically located to support industrial development, offering one-stop services to facilitate investor operations.

At the same time, Secretary of State Roth Saravuth also encouraged Canadian investors to seek potential business partners in Cambodia, as a means to gain a deeper understanding of the local market.
