(Phnom Penh): Welcoming his foreign colleague, Russian prosecutor general Igor Krasnov noted that cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Cambodia continues to expand in various areas, including politics, economy, defence and culture. Bilateral contacts in the field of justice are also on the rise. Igor Krasnov emphasised that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office is endowed with broad powers of supervision, coordination and human rights protection, many of which overlap with the competence of the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia.
“We share strong common ground, which is reflected in the updated draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that we will sign today. It also takes into account the already existing experience of interaction between the two institutions,” said prosecutor general of Russia. "The document will strengthen the legal basis for joint work in the field of countering cross-border threats of a criminal nature, will contribute to a more intensive exchange of the best practices, to the convergence of our positions on international platforms”.
“Given that the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation is the central body for mutual legal assistance in criminal cases and extradition, there are also great prospects for improvement of bilateral contacts in this area”, Igor Krasnov noted.
Russian prosecutor general stated the readiness of the supervisory authority for in-depth partnership with the Kingdom on other issues, including those related to legal support of investment projects, securing the rights of tourists, exchange of experience on modernization of legislation.
The topic of digitalization of justice and law enforcement is of particular interest – from the introduction of departmental IT systems to the use of neural networks. We have experience in this area, and we are ready to share it,” said Igor Krasnov.
As the next step after signing the MoU, Russian prosecutor general proposed to consider the preparation of a specific activities program, which would allow to focus efforts on the most important areas of work, noting that this format is practiced with the relevant authorities of many countries and has proven its effectiveness.
“New horizons of cooperation are emerging before us, we are ready to expand them, to cooperate on any issues of mutual interest. We are fully open for the dialogue,” stated Igor Krasnov.
The meeting concluded with the signing of MoU on cooperation between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Cambodia, under which the parties undertake to strive for practical results in the fight against crime, protection of human rights and freedoms.
