Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 21 – The Kingdom of Cambodia is honored to announce its election as a member of the Organizational Committee of the Peacebuilding Commission (OCPBC) for the 2025-2026 term, during the 54th Plenary Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, on 19 December 2024, in New York. This election marks a significant achievement for Cambodia, underscoring the country's steadfast commitment to global peace, stability, and sustainable development.

"The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is an advisory body to the United Nations assisting countries transitioning from conflict to peace. Cambodia's election to this esteemed body reflects the international community's strong support for and confidence in the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the country's increasing role in diplomacy and the peacebuilding agenda. As a staunch advocate for peace, Cambodia has consistently played a significant role in global peacekeeping operations. Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed over 9000 personnel to serve in 11 United Nations peacekeeping missions, including more than 800 women, earning the country the 25 global ranking for peacekeeper contributions. Cambodia's own transformative journey from the scars of war to lasting peace, particularly following the Khmer Rouge regime, also offers invaluable lessons and insights into the processes of national reconciliation, country-building, and peacebuilding," according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Saturday (Dec. 21).

"As Cambodia takes on this important responsibility, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of the United Nations. We are resolute in our determination to play an active and constructive role in global peacebuilding efforts, contributing to fostering a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous future for all."
