Kampong Cham (FN), Dec. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged an end to the practice of bypassing local administrative mechanisms and directly approaching ministries or institutions regarding land issues. He warned that such a culture perpetuates land disputes in Cambodia.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Dec. 21) at the inauguration ceremony declaring Kampong Cham Province as completing systematic land measurement and title deed distribution.

“We must not let this happen. Land disputes should be resolved through proper legal and official mechanisms, including sub-national administrative frameworks. Provinces with social land concessions must adhere to established procedures to ensure proper resolution and prevent unauthorised actions,” the premier underscored.

The premier highlighted the Royal Government’s ongoing commitment to allocating land to landless citizens, noting that tens of thousands of families have already benefited. For citizens genuinely lacking land, he advised applying through local mechanisms.

“I urge citizens without land to register their needs through local administrative channels so we can provide assistance. Please do not fall for the propaganda of brokers who mislead citizens into illegal land grabs or extort money in exchange for false promises,” Samdech Thipadei continued.

On the occasion, the premier reflected on past instances where individuals bypassed local administrations, leading to complications and prolonged land disputes. He called for citizens to trust and follow established processes, warning against taking shortcuts or circumventing sub-national authorities.

Samdech Thipadei reassured citizens that the Royal Government remains committed to their welfare, reiterating that landless citizens will be provided with land. He cited the government’s decades-long practice of distributing land, benefiting tens of thousands of families since the 1990s, and continuing to do so to this day.
